Introduction to MetaTrader 4’s Menu Bar Functions
All operations on MetaTrader 4 are covered by the menu bar.
Knowing the available functions allows for smoother and more advanced trading.
(1) About the File Menu
The File menu includes options for chart operations, chart group management, history data, and chart saving. The items available in the File menu are as follows:
■File menu
1) New Chart
Displays a list of available currency pairs.
Selecting a currency pair from the list opens a new chart.
2) Open Offline
Allows you to select the required file from the saved historical data.
In this case, new prices for the currency pair will not be reflected in the chart.
3) Open Deleted
Restores a deleted template chart
from the /DELETED directory.
4) Profiles
Allows saving or deleting chart groups in this submenu.
Previously saved groups can also be downloaded.
5) Close
Closes the current chart.
6) Save As
Saves historical data as a text file in “CSV,” “PRN,” or “HTM” formats.
7) Save As Picture
Saves the chart in “BMP” or “GIF” formats.
The same operation can also be performed from the “Save As Picture” command in the chart context menu.
8) Open an Account
This feature is not available.

9) Login
Login authentication for a demo or live account.
Once the authentication connection is established, price and newsfeeds begin, and trading becomes possible.
10) Print Setup
Configures general print parameters (printer device, page, size, and print orientation, etc.).
11) Print Preview
Uses the selected printer settings.
This command allows you to check in advance whether all the data you want to print can be printed with those settings.
12) Print
Prints the chart.
13) Exit
Exits the terminal.
(2) About the View Menu
Commands for signal screens, toolbar settings, interface language, and more are consolidated in the View menu.
The items available in the View menu are as follows:
■View menu
1) Languages
Select the language you want to use, and restart MT4
to switch the terminal interface language.
2)Toolbars
Calls up the submenu to configure the toolbar.
The active toolbar is marked with a checkmark, and you can enable or disable it.
3) Status Bar
Enables or disables the status bar displayed at the bottom line of the terminal window.
When clicking on the displayed chart, the date and price of the selected currency pair are shown.
4) Charts Bar
Enables or disables the tabs showing the chart names displayed at the bottom of the chart screen.
Enabling this allows for quick switching of chart displays.
5) Symbols
Allows you to show or hide currency pairs in the Market Watch.
6) Market Watch
Opens or closes the Market Watch window.
The current prices of currency pairs are displayed here.
7) Data Window
Opens or closes the Data Window.
This screen displays the prices of the selected currency pair and information about the technical analysis placed.
8) Navigator
Opens or closes the Navigator window.
This screen displays a tree structure of account lists, chart analysis tools,
Expert Advisors, Custom Indicators, and Scripts.
9) Terminal
Opens or closes the “Terminal” window.
This screen allows you to view trading and account history, alarm settings, mailbox, experts, and activity history.
10) Strategy Tester
Opens or closes the Strategy Tester window.
This screen allows you to test and optimize Expert Advisors.
11) Chats
Allows inquiries to MQL5.
By creating an account from “Register,” you can engage in real-time communication.
12) Full Screen
Enables or disables the full-screen mode.
When this option is enabled, the toolbar and status bar are disabled, and all signal screens are closed.
(3) About the Insert Menu
Objects placed on the chart are grouped under the “Insert” menu.
The items related to object manipulation are as follows:
■Insert Menu
1) Indicators
Allows you to insert chart analysis tools (indicators) on the chart.
2) Lines
Allows you to insert various lines (vertical, horizontal, trendlines).
3) Channels
Allows you to insert various channels.
4) Gann
Allows you to insert Gann lines and more.
5) Fibonacci
Allows you to insert Fibonacci into the chart.
6) Shapes
Allows you to insert rectangles, triangles, and ellipses into the chart.
7) Arrows
Allows you to insert symbols to mark important points on the chart.
8) Andrews’ Pitchfork
Allows you to insert Andrews’ Pitchfork into the chart.
9) Cycle Lines
Allows you to insert cycle lines into the chart.
10) Text
Text for adding comments to the chart.
11) Text Label
Adds comments.
It is fixed to the coordinates of the window, not the chart.
(4) About the Charts Menu
Allows settings and operations for charts and technical analysis placed within the chart.
The commands available within the Charts menu are as follows:
1) Indicators List
Calls up the screen to edit the technical analysis placed on the active chart.
You can select one technical analysis, change its settings, or delete it from the chart.
2) Objects List
Calls up the submenu to display and edit placed objects.
Selected objects can be edited with the “Edit” button in the window or deleted with the “Delete” button.
3) Bar Chart
Displays the chart as a series of bars.
4) Candlesticks
Displays the chart as a series of “candlesticks.”
5) Line Chart
Displays the chart as a line connecting the closing prices of the currency pair.
6) Bring to Front
When this function is enabled, all analytical objects are placed behind the chart and not displayed in the foreground.
7) Timeframes
Displays 1-minute, 5-minute, 15-minute, 30-minute, 1-hour, 4-hour, daily, weekly, and monthly charts.
8) Templates
Calls up a submenu to set and operate template charts, saves a new template, or deletes an existing one.
9) Refresh
Updates historical data.
10) Grid
Displays or hides the grid on the chart screen.
11) Volumes
Displays or hides volumes on the chart screen.
12) Auto Scroll
Specifies whether the position of new bars is automatically set to the right edge of the chart window after a new bar is generated.
13) Chart Shift
Moves the position of the latest bar on the chart to the position of the chart shift label.
14) Zoom In
Zooms in on the chart.
15) Zoom Out
Zooms out on the chart.
16) Step-by-Step
Moves the chart one bar to the left.
17) Properties
Sets parameters related to the overall chart.
(5) About the Tools Menu
Allows for placing new orders.
The commands available in the Tools menu are as follows:
1) New Order
Calls up the window to manage new orders.
You can place market and pending orders from this window.
2) History Center
Allows editing of the prices that make up the chart in the History Center.
3) Global Variables
Calls up the window with the list of global variables of the terminal.
4) MetaEditor
Allows creation and editing of Expert Advisors, Custom Indicators, and Scripts.
5) Options
Allows setting parameters for connection, trading, charts, Expert Advisors, etc., in this window.
(6) About the Window Menu
Contains commands to manage the chart screens.
The commands for creating new chart screens or selecting how to align workspace charts are as follows:
1) New Window
Creates a new chart screen.
Selecting a currency pair from the list opens a chart for that currency pair.
2) Tile Windows
Divides the screen into four charts.
To change the position of a chart, move it with the mouse or move the tab.
3) Cascade
Aligns the chart screens in a cascading manner.
4) Tile Horizontally
Displays chart screens side by side horizontally.
5) Tile Vertically
Displays chart screens side by side vertically.
6) Arrange Icons
A convenient feature when working on multiple charts simultaneously.
(7) Help Menu
The Help menu contains various help information related to the terminal.
The help commands related to the terminal’s operation are as follows:
1) Help Topics
This section provides descriptions of all the settings and functions within the client terminal.
2) What’s New
Opens the magnifying glass (search) on the toolbar.
3) Video Guide
Opens guide videos related to trading robots and the market.
4) MQL5 Menu
Opens various functions related to MQL5.
5) MetaTrader4 or 5 Mobile
Guide to the application.
6) Check MetaTrader 5 Updates
Information on updating to MT5.
7) About
Opens the About screen containing version information of the terminal.
